   Cover Letter  

I am an enthusiastic individual with hands-on managerial experience and a Technical Writing degree with the capability to contribute successfully wherever you need me. I currently hold the position of Administrative Associate in the Correspondence Unit, Chief’s Administration, Houston Police Department. This position requires me to maintain files, electronically and physically, using copy machine and scanner all while following documentation regarding proper distribution. I distribute Circulars, Special Orders and other correspondence via mail, email, fax and interoffice mail. Additionally, I prepare briefings and correspondence such as Circulars and memos as well as letters to outside agencies for Chief Acevedo. I have also been designated the Records Retention contact. Occasionally, I maintain the reception area, greeting visitors and Classified and Civilian staff while answering citizens’ phone calls and routing them appropriately.


My time with Borders as the Seattle’s Best Café Manager required me to be detail oriented and

move quickly in a fast-paced, busy and demanding environment. Performing inventory, product

ordering, merchandising and marketing all required this attention to detail to be successfully

completed. In addition, I concurrently acted as Store Manager on different shifts. This required me to supervise 6-15 employees, both store and cafe at the same time, as well as maintaining store flow and customer satisfaction. I worked with General, Area and Regional Managers and Directors for Borders and Seattle’s Best Coffee in order to maintain the highest quality business possible. On a side note, I was able to combine ideas with the Borders General and Sales Mangers to take the café from failing and in the “red” to thriving in the “black” and being profitable.


At Oklahoma State University, document design, technical writing, grammar and advanced

composition were all skills developed as an English/Technical Writing major. The classes have

extended my knowledge of and ability to use the English language in ways that allow me to

present information in a professional, clear and concise manner.


Writing gives me an immense amount of pleasure. Interning both with Judith Karman Hospice

and Cushing Hospital gave me the opportunity to edit and revise patient instructional brochures

on how to develop a living will. Additionally, I wrote and edited a variety of nursing policies and

procedures, which are currently used for training.


I am adept at internet usage, well-versed in Microsoft Office and familiar with PowerPoint and

Excel. I have limited experience with Kronos, but am excited to further my skills in all of these areas.
